titleOfInvention | Device for monitoring a drilling or coring operation |
abstract | A device for measuring drilling parameters includes measuring equipment 7 which is housed in a groove 5 around a cylindrical coupling unit 1 which can fit between adjacent pipe sections or between the lowest pipe section and the drill bit. The groove is surrounded by a sheath 6 but the coupling unit is still able to deform, the measuring equipment has two components. The grooves may be annular and there can be two such grooves. The equipment preferably includes an electrical generator with removable cells. The equipment may start up or standby automatically in response to movement, stress and/or rest. The coupling unit may screw into the drill string using mutually engaging threads but be tapered to engage with a drill string or drill bit adapter at the other end. Drill bits and installations suitable for use with said device are also disclosed. |
