| abstract | The device 10, for obtaining a sample from the ginival crevicular area and buccal cavity of a subject, has a bite plate, means for engaging the gingival sulcus of the buccal cavity and absorbent means for absorbing a fluid sample. The bite plate is a central spine of an H-shaped part 14 which has parallel protrusions of different sizes extending along inner and outer surfaces of the arms of the H, the protrusions acting to collect the sample. The central spine has a slot for female - male mounting on a handle 12. The H-shaped part can be snapped off from the handle for retention in a collection container having preservative fluid. |
