abstract A system 10 for controlling flow of water in a building comprising, an inlet 20 for connection to a water supply; an outlet 30 connected to the inlet 20; a valve 40 for controlling flow of water from the inlet 20 to the outlet 30. The valve 40 being configured to maintain a closed configuration to prevent flow of water from the inlet 20 to the outlet 30 in the absence of a genuine water demand being determined by the system 10. A sensor 50 senses a rate of flow in the system 10, the sensor 50 being configured to provide an output representative of a rate of flow sensed; and control means 62 receives the output from the sensor means 50 and opens the valve 40 to allow flow from the inlet 20 to the outlet (30) if the received output from the sensor 50 exceeds a predetermined threshold rate. The outlet 30 comprises water storage means 80 for providing an initial supply of pressurised water to the building when the valve 40 is in its closed configuration, the water storage means 80 comprising a chamber means (84 fig 2b) for storing water received from the inlet 20; and pressurisation means (100 fig 2b) for pressurising water.
