| abstract |
A purification process for fatty waste material is described to enable the material to be used in the production of biodiesel. A fatty waste material not containing oryzanol and containing fatty acid moieties is treated by a purification process comprising a vacuum stripping step followed by a treatment step with an aqueous alkali, wherein the process is free of the use of an organic solvent. The alkali treatment step may be followed by an adsorptive treatment step using silica hydrogel. Before the vacuum stripping, filtration and acid degumming may be performed. |
