A compound of formula (1) as defined therein is obtained from Antrodia camphorata and may be used to treat autoimmune disease, in particular 4-hydroxy-2,3-dimethoxy-6- methyl-5(3,7,11-trimethyl-dodeca-2,6,10-trienyl)-cyclohex-2-enone. Preferred autoimmune diseases that may be treated include systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The aforementioned compound helps to decrease proteinuria levels and antinuclear antibody titers in SLE mammals in order to alleviate kidney inflammation and disease, as well as the self-damage caused by antinuclear antibodies. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds may also be prepared. |
