abstract |
A hybrid vehicle propulsion system including, an internal combustion engine 10 coupled to an input of a fixed-ratio transmission 14, an electric motor 16 coupled to the output of the multiple fixed-ratio transmission 14 and powered at least by a battery 20 and a controller for adjusting the torque output of the hybrid propulsion system. The controller is operable to adjust at least one of the multiple fixed-ratio transmission 14 to shift from a current gear ratio to a different gear ratio and the locking of a lockup clutch in a torque converter 13 upon a first condition during a first battery state of charge and adjust at least one of the multiple fixed-ratio transmission 14 to shift from the current gear ratio to the different gear ratio and the lock up state of the lockup clutch upon a second condition during a second battery state of charge. |
