abstract |
An analyser grid 44 comprising a plurality of sensors 48 measures gas characteristics, for example oxygen O2, carbon monoxide CO or temperature, in an approximate cross section of flow through a boiler 9 or flue of a coal-fired power plant which includes air injectors with enhanced controllability. The air injectors may have tilt, yaw or air quantity control, may be controlled in response to the output from the analyser grid to create a more homogeneous flow through convective section 22 of the boiler and may make up 30%, 15% or less of the total number of air injectors. Two of the air injectors within a separated overfire air injector (SOFA) port level 56 and two in a close-coupled overfire air injector (CCOFA) port level 54 may be enhanced. The system may be arranged to reduce ash softening and accumulation of slag and improve overall efficiency of the boiler. |
