| abstract | A method for the manufactures of tablets 4 comprising an optical security feature. The method comprises compressing powder mixture 2 using a tablet press with die 3 and two punches 1a, 1b. The surface of the die and/or one or both punches is provided with an embossing relief in the form a diffractive micro-structure (11). The diffractive micro structure is reproduced on the surface of the tablet (forming a diffraction grating). The method may be conducted at room temperature. The punches may be rotationally fixed in relation to their longitudinal axis during the pressing process. The tablets may be coated with a transparent coating after pressing. The method may be carried out with a rotary tablet press. The tablets may be pharmaceuticals (or sweets) and the method may help prevent forgery and counterfeiting. |
