Laparoscopic kidney cooling sheath |
abstract |
The present invention relates to an improved means for achieving localised hyperthermia during surgery such as laparoscopic surgery and more specifically partial nephrectomy (LPN) Surgery. In particular the invention relates to a deformable cooling sheath 101 which can be used to provide renal hypothermia. The walls of the sheath 101 comprise a first inner layer 110 and a second outer layer 111 with a space 103 there between; there is at least one coolant transport tube 104a, 104b connected to the space defined by the layers and at least one of the layers is deformable to the extent that it will conform to the surface of the organ being cooled. The sheath 101 may include a third layer external to the outer layer to define one or more cavities which may be inflatable when provided with air. |
