Spectrophotometer |
abstract |
A spectrophotometer has two photodetectors which are displaced spatially in the direction of increasing wavelength in the spectrum. The diffraction grating of the monochromator of the spectrophotometer rotates such that at any given time the second photodetector receives light at a wavelength which is substantially greater than that being received simultaneously by the first photodetector at that time. The two photodetectors have different but overlapping spectral response characteristics. Thus the range of operation is extended, and data in two different ranges is processed simultaneously. The optical components are mounted to a chassis and the chassis is connected to a housing by shock absorbing mounts. The spectrophotometer is suitable for analyzing a sample in an environment where the spectrophotometer could be prone to detrimental effects. The position of the light source may be adjustable. The spectrophotometer comprises a portable unit containing the light source, detection optics and data processing means. The unit is connected to a probe to guide the light to and from the sample. |
