abstract A substantially anhydrous cement composition comprising ground cement clinker and one or more chromium (VI) reducing compounds comprising anions selected from: thiosulphate, sulphite, bisulphite, metabisulphite, pyrosulphite and hydrosulphite is provided. This cement, at a point of hydration, such as when maxing a cement or a concrete provides levels of chromium (VI) within acceptable heath and safety limits, such as less than 2ppm chromium (VI). Preferably, the ammonium, alkali or alkaline earth cations, especially sodium are used.
