titleOfInvention | Identifying an adenocarcinoma in a cell sample |
abstract | A method of identifying an adenocarcinoma in a cell sample comprising the steps of: <SL> <LI>a) measuring the sizes of the nuclei in the cell sample, <LI>b) calculating the ratio of the size of the largest nucleus in the cell sample to that of the smallest nucleus in the cell sample, <LI>c) comparing the ratio with a preset minimum, and <LI>d) generating a signal when the ratio exceeds the preset minimum. </SL> The preset minimum value of the ratio may be about 3.0. The cell sample may be a sample of colorectal ephithelial cells. An apparatus for carrying out the method is also claimed. The apparatus measures the width and length of the nuclei of the cell sample and a data processer calculates the ratio of the lengths of the largest and smallest nuclei and the ratio of the widths of the largest and smallest nuclei in the sample. |
