titleOfInvention | Lithographic printing plate comprising porous non-anodic layer |
abstract | A printing plate comprises in sequence a substrate, a non anodic, non grained porous coating consisting of a metal and/or a metal oxide, an optional hydrophilic layer, an optional organic undercoat and an imaging layer. The substrate may comprise an aluminium foil or supported foil. The porous layer has a thickness of 0.1-30 microns, and may comprise a valve metal ie. magnesium, thorium, cadmium, tungsten, tin, iron, silicon, tantalum, titanium, aluminium (aluminum), zirconium and niobium. Where the porous layer is an oxide it comprises at least one of copper, magnesium, cadmium, aluminium, zirconium, hafnium, thorium, chromium, tungsten, molybdenum or cobalt oxide and where it comprises aluminium oxide, the pore sizes range from 1-30 nm. The porous layer may be vacuum deposited and may have a fractal morphology. The hydrophilic layer may also comprise a metal oxide as listed above and may be vacuum or anodically deposited. The organic undercoat may comprise a silane polymer. Also provided is an article of manufacture having a nano-porous surface, with a pore size distribution of 1-100, ideally 1-30nm. The surface may have a fractal morphology and comprise a valve metal or valve metal oxide. |
