A curable composition comprises (i) a monomer, oligomer, and/or polymer, (ii) a particulate phosphorus-containing compound, and (iii) a liquid phosphorus compound or a particulate compound, wherein components (ii) and (iii) impart fire retardant properties to the cured composition and the composition has adhesive properties. Preferably, component (i) is an epoxy material, which forms a thermoset upon curing. Component (ii) is typically ammonium polyphosphate or triphenyl phosphate and component (iii) may be heat expandable graphite. A curing agent, such as an amine hardener, may also be provided. Typically, the composition does not comprise more than trace amounts of halogenated resins and additives or antimony trioxide. A method is also disclosed, wherein the composition is applied a substrate before being cured to form a composite. A two-part pack is further claimed, wherein the first pack contains the curable composition and the second pack comprises a curing agent. |
