abstract A composition for external application to human skin that produces an effect in or near to the portion of skin to which it is applied. The effect is preferably enhanced by the application of heat to the skin portion, such as a tanning lamp. The composition may comprise dihydroxyacetone (DHA) or erythulose for the darkening the skin, amino acids for enhancing the darkening of the skin, botanical extracts for reducing water retention or cellulite, isomerised linoleic acid for reducing the volume of fat beneath the skin and a peptide that stimulates collagen production for reducing wrinkles in the skin.
