titleOfInvention | Gel comprising citrus complex carbohydrates for the application to a wound |
abstract | A gel for application to a wound comprising a mixture of citrus complex carbohydrates, a cellulose derivative a polyol, and water, wherein the citrus complex carbohydrates are cross-linked to the cellulose derivative by an ionic cross-linking agent. Preferably, the cellulose derivative is sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, the polyol is propylene glycol or polypropylene glycol and the ionic cross-linking agent is a magnesium or calcium ion. The citrus complex carbohydrates are preferably extracted from citrus fruit peel by aqueous leeching. Alternatively, a process for making a gel comprising the steps of mixing a citrus complex carbohydrate, a cellulose derivative and an ionic cross-linking agent in aqueous solution and adding a polyol to the mixture to form a gel. |
