abstract A dispenser for dispensing fine droplets comprises an ejection capillary tube 5 connected to a liquid supply. The ejection capillary at least a second outer capillary tube 6, 7 which surrounds the ejection tube. A meniscus 8 develops inside the second tube and extends beyond the ejection tube. Application of a shock wave to the capillary causes ejection of the droplet. The internal surfaces of the capillaries may be hydrophilic with respect to the liquid, whilst the outer surface of the outermost capillary tube 9 may be similarly hydrophobic. A cap (13, fig. 3) may surround the dispenser to prevent drying of the capillaries by maintaining a high vapour pressure adjacent the dispenser.
