A method of screening a sample for one or more abnormally glycosylated and/ or expressed proteins comprising the steps of exposing the sample to two or more different lectins and/or antibodies, determining the extent of binding of the sample to at least two of the lectins and/or antibodies and comparing the extent of binding to at least two lectins/antibodies with that of the control sample. The lectins/antibodies may be immobilised on a solid surface to form an array and the binding of the sample may be performed in real time and be detected by an evanescent optical technique. The method may be used to test body fluids for the presence of recombinant erythropoietin (rEPO), chorionic gonadotrophin, hGH or transferrin to determine use of glycoprotein drugs or diagnose glycosylation disorders. The lectins may be Sambucus nigra agglutinin or Maackia amurensis agglutinin. Kits of parts for use in the methods are disclosed. |
