abstract |
A single-chain polypeptide capable of binding the cofactor pyrroloquinoline (PQQ) to form a quinoprotein. Said quinoprotein is capable of binding divalent ions to form a holoprotein having polyol dehydrogenase activity. The polyol dehydrogenase activity of the enzyme allows the oxido-reduction of a secondary alcohol of a polyol (e.g. D-sorbitol, D-ribose, D-arabitol). The enzyme has both gluconate 5-dehydrogenase activity and sorbitol dehydrogenase activity. |
