abstract A substance which, when added to natural and/or synthetic fibres, will protect those fibres from insect attack contains diatomaceous earth of the amorphous form optionally together with silica and/or silicon compounds. The substance particularly comprises a mixture of 85-92.5% diatomaceous earth and 15-7.5% silicon dioxide and may also contain up to 1% by weight of sodium sulphate. The substance, preferably in finely divided form, may be added to fibres at an appropriate point in a cleaning, pre-treatment or manufacturing process.
