titleOfInvention Sub-sampling pixel array by shared amplifier circuitry.
abstract An imaging array, such as an active pixel sensor (APS) array operates in a normal, full sample mode and a subsample mode. In the normal, conventional operating mode, signals from each of the pixels are routed via pixel columns 202A, 202B to respective amplification circuits 106A, 106B having amplifiers 208A, 208B and capacitors; that is, each imager readout column has a single associated amplifier, allowing one-to-one sampling. In the sub sample mode of operation - that is, reduced data reading/resolution - signals from plural imaging pixels are routed to a common, shared amplifier circuit: SUBSAMP2 switch 402A and XFER0 switch 206A are closed, for example, allowing two-to-one subsampling.
