abstract |
The invention is concerned with the form of retransmissions for the case where the adopted modulation scheme has been changed to a higher or lower order scheme after an initial transmission, e.g. because of a variation in channel quality. An apparatus for retransmitting data in a CDMA mobile communication system includes a turbo encoder 612, a controller 626 for determining a modulation scheme to be used in response to a retransmission request, a distributor 614 for distributing the coded bits into systematic bits and parity bits, separate interleavers 616, 618 for the systematic and parity bits and a selector 620 for selecting from the originally transmitted systematic and parity bits. The distribution into systematic and parity bits enables the selection of bits for retransmission on a priority basis, i.e. systematic bits first followed by parity bits, when a change in the modulation scheme (and therefore the bit capacity) has occurred since the original transmission. The receiver (fig. 7) also includes a distributor (716) and performs partial Chase combining (CC) with systematic and parity bits previously received. |
