A compound which is a cyclic amide of formula (I): <EMI ID=1.1 HE=36 WI=99 LX=274 LY=816 TI=CF> <PC>wherein X is CHR<SP>2</SP> or -C(R<SP>3</SP>)=C(R<SP>4</SP>)- wherein R<SP>2</SP> is H, C<SB>1</SB>-C<SB>6</SB> alkyl or Ar and R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP>, together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached, form a benzene ring which is unsubstituted or substituted;<BR> R<SP>1</SP> is H, C<SB>1</SB>-C<SB>6</SB> alkyl, -(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>Ar or an unsaturated carbocyclic group which is unsubstituted or substituted;<BR> n is 1 to 10;<BR> Ar is an unsaturated carbocyclic group or unsaturated heterocyclic group which is unsubstituted or substituted preferably benzothiophen; and<BR> Z is tetrazole or CO<SB>2</SB>R<SP>5</SP> wherein R<SP>5</SP> is H or C<SB>1</SB>-C<SB>6</SB> alkyl; and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof have activity as inhibitors of plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1) for use in treating haemostatic or thrombotic disorders. |
