titleOfInvention Mobile telephone with "V"-shaped central keys
abstract A hand held mobile telephone comprises: a plurality of keys 7-13 each having an upper surface 64 bounded by side walls for tactile actuation by a user; a switching element 110-116 underlying each of the keys; and means 49a,49b for coupling the tactile actuation of the upper surface 64 by a user to the switching element 110-116, wherein one of the keys 7-13 has a vertex in the boundary of the key's upper surface 64, preferably so as to form a 'V'-shaped key. The keys are preferably arranged in an array, e.g. 3 x 4, with the keys in each row of the array being contiguous. The central key of each row is preferably the key containing the vertex and enables a user to determine the central axis of the phone, and hence the other keys, both by sight and by touch. The shape of the central key also allows the centre of that key to be easily identified which facilitates more accurate depression of the key.
