abstract |
An aqueous fluid comprising at least one borate-crosslinked polymer, at least one pH buffer selected from hydroxides and carbonates, and a material capable of releasing cations in an amount effective to reduce the pH of the fluid and remove at least a portion of borate ions from the crosslinked polymer, and water. A method for breaking the viscosity of aqueous fluids using said compositions with divalent cations is also claimed, as is a fluid also comprising an enzyme capable of breaking the crosslinked polymer at reduced pH. The invention finds application in wells for the recovery of oil and other hydrocarbons. |
