titleOfInvention | Extraction of azadirachtin from neem seeds |
abstract | A method for treating a source of azadirachtin by dissolving a sample in an organic polar solvent, combining the solution with an organic non-polar solvent, followed by treatment with an aqueous salt solution to form an aqueous phase containing the organic non-polar solvent, and recovering one or both of the aqueous phase and organic phase. Preferably, the extraction is carried out a plurality of times, and the solid product is isolated from the solvent. Preferably the polar solvent is methanol, acetone, or ethanol, and the non-polar organic solvent is a halogenated hydrocarbon, e.g. dichloromathane. Preferably the salt solution is a sodium chloride solution. |
