A method for cleaning a surface such as a floor, carpet or upholstery uses an extraction cleaner (12, Fig.1) having a fluid supply tank 120 in which is stored a cleaning solution, a nozzle (34, Fig.2) for dispensing the solution on to the surface to be cleaned, and a recovery tank 46 in which is deposited solution recovered from the surface, using suction. In the method, an oxidising agent such as a persalt is admixed with the cleaning solution, and the cleaning solution is heated prior to it being dispensed from the nozzle (34, Fig.2) on to the surface to be cleaned, typically to well above room temperature. The oxidising agent may include an activator. |
