titleOfInvention Communication of location information
abstract The location of a first user, e.g. a mobile phone, 70 fixed line phone or terminal 60 is stored remotely at a server 10, along with other information about the user. The server receives requests from a second user querying the location of the first user. If available and authorised, the location and/or other information is sent to the second user. This information is thus available even if the first user is off-line. The system may be used to broadcast to predefined groups, e.g. identified by an ID number, or with similar interests or locations. The information may be requested and sent using SMS or by WAP. The location of the first user if not in possession of a mobile phone, may be determined by the user supplying the phone number of a fixed phone, wherein the server uses a database to correlate that number with a location. Many other variations and uses are referred to.
