abstract |
A fluorescent screen (42) is formed on the inside of a faceplate (12), while an electron source (18) for exciting the fluorescent screen (42) is formed on the inside of a rear plate (10). The electron source (18) includes an alumina substrate (20) with a large number of minute through holes (24) in which electronic-emitting substance (30) is filled. A reference electrode (22) in contact with the electron-emitting substance (30) is formed on the lower side of the alumina substrate (20). On the upper side of the alumina substrate, a gate electrode (26) is formed in electrical insulation from the electron-emitting substance (30). A voltage applied between the reference electrode (22) and the gate electrode causes a concentration of electric field on the electron-emitting substance (30) so that the electron-emitting substance (30) can emit electrons against the fluorescent screen (42). |
