titleOfInvention A method for optimally determining sensor positions for acoustic pyrometry
abstract The method obtains a minimum number of sensors to satisfy a given error limit and determines the positions of these sensors suitable to minimise errors. A predetermined number of sensors are arbitrarily arranged on the sides of a rectangular area to be measured and a transfer matrix is calculated with respect to positions of all the sensors. Effective independence values (EfI) are obtained for the respective paths of each of the sensors, and the summation of these values provides a total EfI for each of the sensors. The sensor having the smallest total EfI is removed from the area. These steps are repeated until the number of sensors remaining is equal to a target value. The target value is set to be larger than a minimum number of sensors, the minimum number of sensors being found by calculating variations in a conditional number of the transfer matrix while the sensors are reduced in number, and detecting a point where the conditional number increases abruptly.
