abstract A collector 12 for obtaining hydrogen emanating from a surface 11 comprises a flexible plate with guide channels on it's hydrogen receiving face along which collected hydrogen is transported to a detector 15. The flexible plate can be fabricated from stainless steel, metallized plastic or may be a plastic and metal laminate. Utility is in collecting and detecting hydrogen flux from steel or iron surfaces e.g. in the form of a pipeline 11. The collector 12 can be clamped to the surface 11 by magnets.
