Apparatus and method for analysing impurities in gases |
abstract |
A method for analysing impurities in gases, particularly highly adsorptive or reactive gases, comprises passing a predetermined amount of a sample gas trough a system comprising chromatographic columns 10, 11 and detector 13 a number of times with a predetermined time interval and then turning detector 13 on. The apparatus comprises sample gas introduction passage 14 which is split into two or more passages, each containing a chromatographic column 10, 11, a sampling valve 16 for metering and supplying gas to the columns positioned in the main introduction passage 14 or in each separate passage (65, 75, fig. 2) and switch valve 20 located downstream of the columns for switching gas from a column to detector 13 and for switching gas from the other columns to exhaust 19. Detector 13 is preferably an atmospheric pressure ionisation spectrometer or a mass spectrometer. A carrier gas may be used to dilute and flush sample gas from metering tube 15 through the system to detector 13. |
