abstract |
A breathable building membrane 1 for use with tiled roofs as an underlay or as a wall membrane includes an under layer 3 formed of a microporous polymeric film and a top layer 5 formed of a filamentous polymeric fabric which is bonded to the under layer, said under and top layers 3 and 5 being disposed in overlying relationship and being stabilised respectively against heat degradation and ultra-violet light degradation. The top layer 5 may be provided with a moisture vapour permeable reflective coating 5c such as aluminium provided by plasma deposition. The filaments of the fabric layer may be non-woven and be bonded together by entanglement using high pressure water jets, adhesive bonding, ultrasonic bonding or thermal bonding. Discrete areas of the fabric layer may be bonded. Further discrete areas of the film layer may be bonded to the fabric layer. |
