titleOfInvention | Stabilising tin-coupled rubbery polymers with styrene |
abstract | A process for stabilising a tin-coupled rubbery polymer comprises the steps of adding 0.1 phr to 4 phr of styrene to a living rubbery polymer to produce a styrene-capped rubbery polymer and adding a tin halide to the styrene-capped polymer to form the tin-coupled rubbery polymer. A process whereby a tertiary chelating alkyl 1,2-ethylene diamine or a metal salt of a cyclic alcohol is added to the tin-coupled rubbery polymer is also disclosed. The rubbery polymer may be selected from polybutadiene, polyisoprene, and isoprene-butadiene rubber. Preferably, the rubbery polymer does not comprise repeat units derived from styrene other than that in the styrene cap. Typically, the metal salt of the cyclic alcohol comprises lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, or caesium. |
