titleOfInvention | Recovering bromine from dilute aqueous bromide solutions |
abstract | A method for recovering bromine eg from brines or seawater, comprises at least the following steps: (1) an oxidation step wherein an oxidizing agent eg chlorine is added to an aqueous solution containing bromine ion to thereby convert bromine ion into bromine; (2) a generation step wherein the aqueous solution, in which bromine ion has been converted into bromine in the oxidation step, is contacted with a gas having no reactivity with bromine to thereby release a bromine gas; (3) a reduction step wherein the bromine gas released in the generation step is mixed with a sulfur dioxide gas thereby converting bromine into hydrogen bromide; (4) an absorption step wherein the reaction mixture containing the hydrogen bromide converted in the reduction step is captured with an separator comprising filaments and having a specific surface area of from 100 to 500 m<SP>2</SP>/m<SP>3</SP> and (5) adding an oxidizing agent to the captured reaction mixture containing HBr to give Br<SB>2</SB>. |
