abstract | A process for the preparation of a polymerisable composition comprising a cross-linker and a polymerisable monomer of formula I <EMI ID=1.1 HE=33 WI=41 LX=853 LY=566 TI=CF> <PC>comprising the steps of:<BR> (i) contacting a compound of formula II <EMI ID=1.2 HE=41 WI=42 LX=847 LY=1128 TI=CF> <PC>with an immobilised acid,<BR> wherein X, Y, Z, R<SP>1</SP>, P and Q are independently selected from a hydrocarbyl group or hydrogen and wherein A is (CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB> wherein n is 0 or 1;<BR> (ii) neutralising the product of step (i) such that the cross-linker is formed. The invention also relates to an ocular polymer devised for the above monomer. |
