A method for isolating nucleic acids from cells |
abstract |
A method for isolating nucleic acids from a cell sample, wherein the cells are applied and retained on a filter and contaminants are removed. The cells are then lysed followed by removal of the cell lysate but retention of the nucleic acids by the filter. The nucleic acids can be heated prior to elution. The filter comprises material such as glass fibre wherein the fibres have dimensions that retain the cells. The method can be used to extract genomic DNA from blood by separating white blood cells from other blood components such as red blood cells. |
