titleOfInvention Laser ablative element
abstract A laser ablative recording element comprising a support having a certain Young's modulus, a compliant layer having a Young's modulus lower than that of the support, and the compliant layer having a thickness of between 2 žm and 200 žm and preferably being polyethylene, acrylate copolymer, or a polyester, an image layer comprising an image dye or pigment dispersed in a polymeric binder, the image layer having a near infrared-absorbing material associated therewith to adsorb at a given wavelength of the laser used to expose the element, the image dye or pigment absorbing in the region of from 250 to 700 nm. There may be a barrier layer between the compliant and image layers, and a top layer of binder and fluoro-polymer particles may be applied. The element is used to produce masks to make printing plates or printed circuit boards.
