titleOfInvention Organic electroluminescent display panel with reduced pixel cross-talk
abstract An organic electroluminescent (EL) display panel consists of a layer of anode stripes 2, formed on a substrate 6 which is covered with a high polymer layer 4 which acts as a hole injection layer for an overlaying organic light-emitting layer 3. A layer of cathode stripes 1 on top of the light-emitting layer 3 is arranged orthogonally to the anode stripes 2. The anodes are preferably ITO or Au and the cathodes are preferably A1 or In or Ag alloys. The crossed pattern of electrode stripes forms an array of pixels at each point of overlap. The high polymer layer 4, preferably conducting camphor-sulphonic acid (CSA) doped polyaniline material, has a varying conductivity such that in regions GR between the anode stripes, the conductivity is relatively low, possibly insulating compared to regions ER over the anode stipes. A method of forming a pattern of varying conductivity in the polyaniline involves masking portions with a standard photoresist technique and either i). applying an alkaline ammonium solution to reduce regions of a high CSA doped polyaniline layer and thus reduce the conductivity or ii). applying a sulphuric acid solution to increase the doping level and thus the conductivity of a low doped polyaniline layer.
