abstract Compositions are disclosed which comprise a dye of the formula (A) or salt thereof: [wherein: R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-4 -alkoxy or C 1-4 -alkyl; R<SP>2</SP> is H or C 1-4 -alkyl; and R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are each independently H, C 1-4 -alkyl or C 1-4 -hydroxyalkyl] and a black dye of the Formula (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7) or (8); and optionally a water-soluble cyan dye. (57) continued overleaf (57) cont [wherein R<SP>5</SP> is -COOH or -PO(OH 2 ); B is 1,4-phenylene carrying two groups selected from C 1-4 -alkyl and C 1-4 -alkoxy; m is 1 or 2; and R<SP>6</SP> is vinyl sulphonyl (or a group convertible thereto when treated with aqueous alkali) or hydroxyethyl sulphonyl.] Such compositions may be formulated as inks by the addition of a liquid or low-melting-point-solid medium and used in ink jet printing.
