A tablet of compacted particulate material contains sodium acetate trihydrate in order to enhance disintegration of the tablet in water. Preferably the tablet comprises 15-93% of an insoluble water softening agent, eg. a zeolite, 2-35% of the sodium acetate trihydrate and 0-48% of sodium citrate dihydrate. Preferably the water softening agent is an alkali metal aluminosilicate and/or a layered silicate. Optionally a further detergency builder, such as a polycarboxylate, may be provided. The polycarboxylate may also serve as a binder for the tablet and have a melting point between 35-80‹C. The tablet may contain other builders, binders, lubricants, soap fatty acids, non-ionic detergents, bleaches, enzymes, antifoam material, anti-corrosion compositions, fabric softeners and sequestrants. The composition of the tablet may be used as a detergent, a water softener or a bleach. |
