abstract Inorganic carrier, for the immobilisation of enzymes, comprises a coupling agent having a carboxylic ester linkage. The coupling agent may be a silane, especially one of the formula: ```R.COO(CH2)n.SiR'3 wherein: R is an organofunctional group; ```R' is alkoxy, phenoxy or halogen; ```n is an integer. Preferred coupling agents are selected from gamma -methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, gamma -acetoxypropyltrimethoxysilane and gamma -acryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane. The inorganic carrier may be selected from kaolin, porous glass, bentonite, silica (optionally as a gel), alumina, silica/alumina, hydroxyapatite or calcium phosphate gel. The enzyme is preferably lipase.
