abstract |
Opening means for opening a gas container (8) of an airbag or other inflatable article to inflate the article comprises a piercer (2) arranged to be positioned opposite a closure (9), or other part, of the gas container to open the container upon operation of a driver (3) by an explosive actuator (4). The piercer (2) may be urged to move in a direction transverse to, or in line with, operating movement of the driver(3) to open the container. The driver (3) and piercer (2) operate in a manifold (1) which connects to the inflatable article and gas container (8), positioning the container correctly to be opened by the piercer. The opening means is applicable to an airbag for a vehicle, an aircraft or other conveyance to open a gas container for inflation of the airbag in the event of impact on the conveyance in an accident. |
