titleOfInvention | Improvements relating to the application of bodies for dyeing and other purposes |
abstract | The process of Specification 186,057, according to which leuco derivatives of vat dyes are converted into soluble esters by treatment with acids such as chlorosulphonic acid, preferably in the presence of a tertiary base, is extended to the production of similar esters of any other compounds which can be so converted; particularly suitable are compounds which, after reduction, contain groups into which the acid residue may be introduced. The ester salts are reconverted, by saponification or acid oxidation, to the parent substances, which may thus be obtained in a finely divided state upon substrata. According to examples (1) wool is dyed a full black by immersing in a bath containing the sodium salt of the sulphamino derivative of p-aminodiphenylamine and oxidizing with bichromate; (2) fibre is treated with the sodium salt of the disulphuric ester of hydrochloranil (made by treating hydrochloranil with chlorsulphonic acid in the presence of dimethylaniline), oxidized with sodium bichromate to regenerate cloranil, and finally a brown shade developed by treatment with aniline hydrochloride.ALSO:The process of Specification 186,057, according to which leuco derivatives of vat dyes are converted into soluble esters by treatment with acids such as chlorosulphonic acid, preferably in the presence of a tertiary base, is extended to the production of similar esters of any other compounds which can be so converted; particularly suitable are compounds which, after reduction, contain groups into which the acid residue may be introduced.
