abstract |
A moulded ion exchange resin structure suitable for use in reactive distillation is prepared by compressing particles of an ion exchange resin precursor having chemically reactive functional groups on their surfaces, into a preform having a predetermined shape, subsequently chemically bonding the particles together by reaction of the functional groups for example by acid-catalysed condensation and converting the precursor to an ion exchange resin, for example by sulphonation. The chemical bonding and conversion to an ion exchange resin may be carried out in a single step. |
