titleOfInvention Mass spectrometer analysis of samples from electrophoresis plates.
abstract A Mass spectrometry analysis of analytes, e.g. proteins, which have been separated by electrophoresis onto a gel plate is characterised by transfer of the sample from the gel plate onto a sample support plate coated with a layer of solid matrix where the transfer is by direct contact of the support plate with the moist gel plate or contact of the support plate with a moist transfer membrane. The analyte is then ionised by laser desorption and analysed by mass spectrometer. Transfer membranes may be of polyvinylidene difluoride. Typically the matrix is a cyanohydroxy cinnamic acid on a metallic support.
