abstract Polymer dispersed liquid crystal films are disclosed, the precursor of which comprises: (a) 35 - 55 wt % of a liquid crystal mixture containing at least one compound of formula I (as defined in claim 1); (b) 40 - 64.9 wt % of a polymer matrix precursor and (c) 0.1 - 5 wt % of a radical photoinitiator. The polymer matrix precursor comprises:- (A) component A containing 5 - 30 wt % of one or more at-least-difunctional thiol monomers and/or oligomers; (B) component B containing 20 - 55 wt % of one or more mono- or difunctional monomers of the ene type and (C) component C containing at least 35 wt % one or more oligomers of the ene type and/or one or more tri- or higher functional monomers of the ene type. Improvement in PDLC films arises from the amount of (a) present and the nature of component C.
