titleOfInvention Process and apparatus for the reduction of surges in switch-on current in the operation of a three-phase inductive load
abstract Prior to full connection of a three-phase inductive load 2, particularly a transformer, to the three-phase supply, a premagnetization operation is effected in which the voltages between phase lines S and T, then T and R and then R and S (or possibly only S and T, then T and R - Figs 16 to 18) are applied one at a time in sequence to associated windings 3, 4, 5 and in a unipolar sense with each voltage being connected at a phase angle of 90 DEG or later. The sequence may be repeated with the connection timer gradually advanced from a phase angle of 135 DEG to 90 DEG (Fig 10). <IMAGE>
