titleOfInvention Closure with vacuum breaking seal
abstract A metal cap comprises a panel 1 having a depression 4 with a vacuum breaking orifice 6 sealed on its underside by a membrane 10 of resinous material and on its upper surface by resinous material connected to the membrane through orifice 6 together forming a detachable seal 5. The resinous material is applied in the molten state in the region of the depression 4 such that it penetrates orifice 6 where it bonds forming a shank 11 to the membrane 10. Adhesion and solidification to the resinous material is effected eg by vulcanisation. The cap also comprises depending peripheral wall 2, a top wall and a plate particles 1, an annular recess being formed between the peripheral wall 2 and the plate 1 in which is located a closure gasket 3 of resinous material. The seal cannot be reglued in place and is thus tamper indicating. It is suitable for use with thin walled glass jars with no top flanges and containing food. <IMAGE>
