Pain is treated using a compound which acts selectively as an antagonist of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) at GABA autoreceptors relative to GABAA receptors. Preferred compounds are di-and tetrahydroisoquinolines substituted at the 1- position by a tetrahydrofuranyl, thienyl or furanyl group. |
